effexor withdrawal
i have been off effexor for 3 weeks. i was put on this nasty drug by my dr., whom i then trusted to never hurt me. my mom had passed away, my best friend in the world. i was devastated. i was unable to eat, drink or sleep. i could not even say the words that she'd died! my wonderful sister had to call my husband and work, and dr. to tell them. my dr. called it in and i began on the effexor trip to hell. i seemed to get better and continued to take it, not knowing how it could affect me and everyone around me. i got these terrible headaches and brain zaps, but never thought it could be the effexor. every year when i saw my dr., i'd ask when i could stop taking it. i never like to be on anything if not absolutely necessary. he would always say the same thing...oh, i think you'll be on this for the rest of your life. i wondered why, but could never really get an answer. in december of 2007, he suggested i up the dosage, from 75mg to 150 a day. he said it did not appear to be working for me anymore. in about a day's time, i became more irritable than usual for me, and just attributed this to the season and being rushed for the holidays. kept taking it, and day by day, i got so i didn't want to speak to anyone or even be around anyone. they all got on my nerves! i ama wal-mart greeter! so this is very bad! the last day i worked, i became so irritable, i melted down and left! i told my dr. i was going back to the original dose of effexor since it was the only thing different i'd done and had to be it. this proved impossible to do. i was in such misery i could hardly hold my head up. i had a debilitating headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, uncontrollable body jerks, nightmares, lost control of my bladder on occasion, and brain zaps. i got a leave of absence from work and stayed in bed, trying to get off this stuff for weeks. i went to the emerg. rm. for help and was told there are no withdrawal symptoms of effexor! finally, i got someone who helped me. this dr. understood withdrawals and acknowledged it was effexor! finally! i learned not to eat turkey, or grapefruit or oranges or drink the juice of. no ibuprofen or aspirin for me. i was tapered off very gradually, each time suffering the effects all over again, like starting over. i am off now for 3 weks, and still have terrible headaches, weakness and dizziness. but i am able to function! hoping to get back to work soon! if you are trying to get off this drug from hell, DO NOT GIVE UP! YOU CAN DO IT!!!
